Improving the quality of life beyond 20/20 vision. We are dedicated to the art of seeing better and feeling better about yourself.

Dr. Catherine Darling has dedicated her life to helping people see the world more clearly. After earning her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Eastern Illinois University in 1996, she went on to pursue her Doctor of Optometry degree at the prestigious Illinois College of Optometry. Graduating with clinical honors and ranking in the top 5% of her class in 2000, Dr. Darling returned to her community with a mission: to deliver exceptional eye care with compassion and expertise.
Later that same year, she founded Darling Eye Center in Bluffton, South Carolina. With a relentless commitment to her patients and a reputation for excellence, Dr. Darling quickly grew her practice into the Lowcountry’s leading optometric provider, opening a second location on Hilton Head Island in 2005. She has been named best Optometrist in the Low country for numerous years running.
Dr. Darling is known for her warm, personal approach and her deep expertise in managing complex eye conditions, including glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, and retinal emergencies. For her, patient care isn’t just a profession—it’s a calling. She treats every patient as family and believes in educating and empowering them to protect their vision for life.
Her commitment to service extends far beyond her practice walls. Over the years, Dr. Darling has participated in multiple medical mission trips to Guatemala and El Salvador, providing eye exams and glasses to hundreds of individuals—many experiencing clear vision for the first time in years.
Outside of the exam room, Dr. Darling embraces life to the fullest. An avid runner and multiple-time marathon finisher, she thrives on challenge and discipline. At home, she cherishes time with her husband, Mark, and their four beautiful daughters. Known among family and friends for her love of bold flavors, she’s always in search of the next great hot sauce. On Sundays, you’ll find her with her family at church, drawing strength and inspiration from her faith and community.
For Dr. Darling, eye care is about more than vision—it’s about connection, compassion, and making a lasting difference in people’s lives.
